Introducing a fun new concept for the Bay Area Kizomba @ Afrohouse/Kuduro scene!

Spend 12 weeks learning to dance kizomba & afrohouse/Kuduro as we create a choreography that will be performed and filmed!

Time: 3-6PM (Kizomba 3-4:30 & Afrohouse 4:30-6PM)
Location: Oakland, CA – Private location so must contact organizers first for address

Performance Date: April 19th
Video Shoot: April 20th or 21st (TBD)

The best thing about this is not only will you learn a fun choreography to be performed and filmed, you will actually learn to dance each dance.

This will be a great opportunity to dedicate time and working towards a shared goal with fellow dance lovers.

This workshop is open to all levels, so be it your first time or you are well seasoned, you will dance away with an amazing experience!

There will be a Kizomba section and an Afrohouse/Kuduro section. Participants are welcome to join one or both.
Each section is 1.5 hours of instruction; totaling 3 hrs for both.

Dropins welcome for the beginning of the workshop series but will closed closer to the performance and filming date.

First time doing something like this? Nervous about the idea of performing?
That’s totally normal! And we will have ample time to practice and perfect our show and it’s all love and support. Pushing our comfort zones opens us up to a world of new possibilities!

Christina Lesego
Christina has been dancing Kizomba for the past 4 years and has dance backgrounds in Salsa, Bachata, Jamaican dancehall, as well as other styles of dance.

She has danced Kizomba around the world, Paris, South Africa, Mozambique to name a few. She has attended festivals taking workshops with top international instructors, taken private lessons and jumps at any chance to dance and learn more about Kizomba.

Her attention to detail, patience and understanding of dance and how people move create an optimal learning experience for her students. She is all about feeling and fun, while still paying attention to accuracy and technique. Her ability to accommodate to her teaching, allows each student the opportunity to find out what works for them and how their own body likes to move.

Christina has also been a long time organizer of events in the Bay Area and hosts her own monthly Kizomba party, as well as organizing and collaborating other parties and workshops.

Roshonda Parker:
Roshonda, Also Known As Showtime, When She Is dancing, Was Born And Raised In The Bay Area And Loves It. Just Like Everyone In This World, We Stress. We All Need Some Kind Of Outlet To Release That Stress Or Built Up Enegry.
She Finds That Dance Is The One Thing That Cant Be Taken From Her And She Is In Complete Control Of Her Actions. Rotunda Has Been Dancing Ever Since She Could Remember. From Step Teams, School Shows, Full Productions And Forming Her Own Choreographies. She Has Also Taught A Dance Called Bits And Pieces For Elementary Children To Perform At Their School Performance.
She Has Studied Dance First At Home By Recording Dance Videos From Tv And Pressing Play, Rewind, And Pausing To Learn The Steps. Danced Afro Brazilian For The First Time In High School And Fell In Love, Then Went On To Laney College Where She Studied West African Dance And Afro Hatian. Every Dance That She Does Has An Afro Vibe To It.
Roshonda Is Now Into The Latest Dance Moves Like The Azonto, Alkayida, Afro House And Kuduro And Have Caught On Fast. She Loves To Dance And Dance Is Her Life And Her Passion Is To Share That Love With The World.

ABOUT THE DANCES –
Kizomba:

Kizomba is one of the most popular genres of dance and music originating from Angola. It is a derivative of semba, with a mix of Kilapanda and Angolan Merengue, and sung generally in Portuguese. It is music with a romantic flow. It was the Kimbundu name for a dance in Angola as early as 1894. Kizomba has influences from nearby countries and the caribbean and its popularity has been growing and is now danced all over the world. Today you will find many different styles of Kizomba have evolved with their own unique look and feel as inspired artists are excited to share the art.

Afro house:
Angolan afro house dance steps come from kwaito steps (from south Africa), african tribal dance mouvements and mostly “dombolo” mouvements from our brothers from Congo RDC. Because of the cultural influences of the former “Kingdom of Kongo” whose province (Mbanza congo) is still located in Angola.

Afro house or African house, Is a music and dance genre that is mostly practiced in Angola and South Africa. The “music” emerged “first” in “south Africa” in the early 90’s thanks to “house music”. However South Africans had not yet associated afro house music with special dancing steps as Angolans did. South African were deep into their kwaito music and dance. Because it represented a sign of “freedom” and later it became a “voice for South Africans”. However today the sounds of Afro house are being very predominant in South Africa.

Kuduro:
Originally, in early 90’s, the dance steps were very limited to the mouvements done by Jean claude Van Damme in his mouve: Kickboxer from 1989. As the time went by, Angolans created appropriate steps associated with our day by day cultural values to enrich the dance.
Kuduro means, “Hard Ass” (or stiff bottom). It emerged in Angola in the late 1980’s. Tony Amado came to this wonderful idea after seeing the movie Kickboxer from Jean Claude van Damme in 1989. In the begining when it appeared, the music was known as “batida” (beats).

Christina has been dancing Kizomba for the past 4 years and has dance backgrounds in Salsa, Bachata, Jamaican dancehall, as well as other styles of dance.

She has danced Kizomba around the world, Paris, South Africa, Mozambique to name a few. She has attended festivals taking workshops with top international instructors, taken private lessons and jumps at any chance to dance and learn more about Kizomba.

Her attention to detail, patience and understanding of dance and how people move create an optimal learning experience for her students. She is all about feeling and fun, while still paying attention to accuracy and technique. Her ability to accommodate to her teaching, allows each student the opportunity to find out what works for them and how their own body likes to move.

Christina has also been a long time organizer of events in the Bay Area and hosts her own monthly Kizomba party, as well as organizing and collaborating other parties and workshops.

She Has Studied Dance First At Home By Recording Dance Videos From Tv And Pressing Play, Rewind, And Pausing To Learn The Steps. Danced Afro Brazilian For The First Time In High School And Fell In Love, Then Went On To Laney College Where She Studied West African Dance And Afro Hatian. Every Dance That She Does Has An Afro Vibe To It.
Roshonda Is Now Into The Latest Dance Moves Like The Azonto, Alkayida, Afro House And Kuduro And Have Caught On Fast. She Loves To Dance And Dance Is Her Life And Her Passion Is To Share That Love With The World.

ABOUT THE DANCES –
Kizomba:

Kizomba is one of the most popular genres of dance and music originating from Angola. It is a derivative of semba, with a mix of Kilapanda and Angolan Merengue, and sung generally in Portuguese. It is music with a romantic flow. It was the Kimbundu name for a dance in Angola as early as 1894. Kizomba has influences from nearby countries and the caribbean and its popularity has been growing and is now danced all over the world. Today you will find many different styles of Kizomba have evolved with their own unique look and feel as inspired artists are excited to share the art.

Afro house:
Angolan afro house dance steps come from kwaito steps (from south Africa), african tribal dance mouvements and mostly “dombolo” mouvements from our brothers from Congo RDC. Because of the cultural influences of the former “Kingdom of Kongo” whose province (Mbanza congo) is still located in Angola.

Afro house or African house, Is a music and dance genre that is mostly practiced in Angola and South Africa. The “music” emerged “first” in “south Africa” in the early 90’s thanks to “house music”. However South Africans had not yet associated afro house music with special dancing steps as Angolans did. South African were deep into their kwaito music and dance. Because it represented a sign of “freedom” and later it became a “voice for South Africans”. However today the sounds of Afro house are being very predominant in South Africa.

Kuduro:
Originally, in early 90’s, the dance steps were very limited to the mouvements done by Jean claude Van Damme in his mouve: Kickboxer from 1989. As the time went by, Angolans created appropriate steps associated with our day by day cultural values to enrich the dance.
Kuduro means, “Hard Ass” (or stiff bottom). It emerged in Angola in the late 1980’s. Tony Amado came to this wonderful idea after seeing the movie Kickboxer from Jean Claude van Damme in 1989. In the begining when it appeared, the music was known as “batida” (beats).

Performance Date: April 19th
Video Shoot: April 20th or 21st (TBD)

The best thing about this is not only will you learn a fun choreography to be performed and filmed, you will actually learn to dance each dance.

This will be a great opportunity to dedicate time and working towards a shared goal with fellow dance lovers.

This workshop is open to all levels, so be it your first time or you are well seasoned, you will dance away with an amazing experience!

There will be a Kizomba section and an Afrohouse/Kuduro section. Participants are welcome to join one or both.
Each section is 1.5 hours of instruction; totaling 3 hrs for both.

It is music with a romantic flow. It was the Kimbundu name for a dance in Angola as early as 1894. Kizomba has influences from nearby countries and the caribbean and its popularity has been growing and is now danced all over the world. Today you will find many different styles of Kizomba have evolved with their own unique look and feel as inspired artists are excited to share the art.

Afro house:
Angolan afro house dance steps come from kwaito steps (from south Africa), african tribal dance mouvements and mostly “dombolo” mouvements from our brothers from Congo RDC. Because of the cultural influences of the former “Kingdom of Kongo” whose province (Mbanza congo) is still located in Angola.

Afro house or African house, Is a music and dance genre that is mostly practiced in Angola and South Africa. The “music” emerged “first” in “south Africa” in the early 90’s thanks to “house music”. However South Africans had not yet associated afro house music with special dancing steps as Angolans did. South African were deep into their kwaito music and dance. Because it represented a sign of “freedom” and later it became a “voice for South Africans”. However today the sounds of Afro house are being very predominant in South Africa.

Kuduro:
Originally, in early 90’s, the dance steps were very limited to the mouvements done by Jean claude Van Damme in his mouve: Kickboxer from 1989. As the time went by, Angolans created appropriate steps associated with our day by day cultural values to enrich the dance.
Kuduro means, “Hard Ass” (or stiff bottom). It emerged in Angola in the late 1980’s. Tony Amado came to this wonderful idea after seeing the movie Kickboxer from Jean Claude van Damme in 1989. In the begining when it appeared, the music was known as “batida” (beats).
